We have been working the last few weeks on our AC Math March Madness competition. The students are split into teams and each week they are competing in who can get the most AC Math assignments complete correctly to move on to the next round. The third week begins on Monday. I really want to make sure that all the students are working on AC Math and helping their teams. The score for the AC Math competition will also be added into their grade for 3rd quarter. The competition comes with prizes for winning teams, individuals, and classes. The following spells out the rewards:
Hi parents, We are starting a new quarter this week. It is a fresh start and a way for us to recommit to making sure we are doing our best to learn all we can. We are still working with comparing offers to make decisions about what will give us the best opportunity. Ask your students about sharing pizza and how they determined which table gave them the most pizza. This is really good mathematics for future decision making. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are starting new unit this week here are the parent letters to help you know how you can best help your student.
Comparing and Scaling Parent Letter-English Comparing and Scaling Parent Letter-Spanish This week we will look at comparing data results and looking at the results as ratios, percents, and fractions. We want to make sure that the comparison statements that we make are accurate and will work and making sure what we conclude is correct. The parent letters that are included above some vocabulary that we will work on during the unit. You might want to look over those words and ask your student what they know about the words. Please let me know if you have any questions 4th Period Students:
Hello Parents! From October 10 -19, our school is participating in a program called Pennies for Patients; this program benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The donations we receive in our classroom help students all around Utah, like Ali, through funding research for better treatments. In addition to collecting coins and cash in our classroom, your student can collect donations online! Below are instructions on how to donate to our classroom’s online giving page. Why give online? · The top classroom overall will get a lunch brought in from Olive Garden! · The top ONLINE classroom will get a pizza party! Donate Today: 1. Go to http://events.lls.org/pages/ut/HillsideMiddleSchoolSaltLakeCty-2017/MsRolf 2. Click on the red “Donate Today” button! Please support our school and your child and donate to our class. You can post on Facebook, email to friends, and even tweet about it. Whatever it takes to save lives. Help us teach your student that school is more than just learning how to BE good at things, but how to DO good for others! If you have question, please let me know. Parents, I would love to see you next week during parent teacher conferences. The conferences are being held on Tuesday, September 27th and Thursday, September 29th. Tuesday afternoon are by appointment only. Please use the school website to sign up for a time. If you would rather, Thursday afternoon is open house style--stop by and visit during a free minute.
Again, I would love to see you and talk about your amazing students and give you and your student some tips for success. See you then. This week we have been working hard on measures of center (mean and median) and measures of spread/variability (mean absolute deviation.) Here's a tutorial to help understand the mean absolute deviation. I'm so excited for our new year together. I'm new to a classroom website, but wanted to make sure that we have a place to keep everyone updated on what is happening in our classroom. As the first post, I thought a video might be funny and help us all get into the mathematics groove. Enjoy! Ms. Rolf |
