Grading
The mathematics department uses standards-based grading in the following categories: Community, Learning Process, and Academic Mastery. The mathematics department will measure student mastery with course-based rubrics. Grades will be reported by level of achievement: Exemplary, Proficient, Approaching Proficient, and Beginning for each of the reporting categories. You will see them reported as 1 – 4 on PowerSchool for assignments.
1 = Beginning: student meets few or none of the grade level expectations
2 = Approaching Proficient: student meets some of the grade level expectations
3 = Proficient: student meets grade level expectations
4 = Exemplary: student goes above and beyond grade level expectations
Students will provide evidence of learning for each of the reporting categories. They will have multiple opportunities to show mastery of the learning goals. Below are examples of types of evidence that could show students’ mastery in each of the learning categories.

*Grades and assignments will be posted on the district PowerSchool program. We will try to update grades weekly although late work from absences will not be graded as often. Parents and students should check PowerSchool regularly. This gives valuable information about missing assignments and a student’s progress in the class.
A grade of NG means we don’t have enough evidence of learning to determine a grade. This may be due to several absences, incomplete work, missing assignments, and or refusal to participate in class.
